X Layer is an Ethereum L2 network that offers a secure, user-friendly blockchain experience, leveraging advanced cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to ensure the validity and near-instant finality of off-chain transaction computations. Built using the Polygon CDK and powered by the OKB token, X Layer provides 100% EVM compatibility, high performance, and low fees. It also seamlessly integrates with the Polygon AggLayer, benefiting from shared liquidity and trustless interoperability with other L1 and L2 networks in the ecosystem.

How does X Layer work?

X Layer operates as a validity rollup, processing transactions off-chain and subsequently posting data to Ethereum L1. It verifies state by submitting Zero Knowledge Proofs to L1, which are confirmed through a smart contract.

The concept of X Layer’s zkEVM can be divided into two parts:

  • Zero-Knowledge Proofs: ZK proof technology validates batches of transactions through succinct proofs, ensuring computational trustworthiness and enabling scalability.
  • Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM): The EVM is the smart contract execution environment within the Ethereum ecosystem that enables the execution of smart contracts and functions as a global computing network. EVM computation is ZK-proven and verified on-chain.
Benefits of X Layer

Developers and users seeking to enjoy the benefits of Ethereum and the EVM with lower costs and higher scalability will find X Layer an attractive solution. Its zkEVM architecture allows for thousands of transactions per second (TPS) while maintaining shared security with Ethereum L1. With seamless integration into the OKX ecosystem and shared liquidity within Polygon 2.0, X Layer is poised to become a significant L2.

  • Scalability and Flexibility: X Layer is an EVM Validium, which offers scalability and flexibility with regards to data availability (DA).
  • Lower Fees: X Layer reduces costs by avoiding expensive gas fees to permanently store transactions on the L1.
  • ZK-Powered Scalability: The network is not limited by the amount of transaction data that can be published to Ethereum thanks to ZK-validity proofs.
  • Ethereum Security: X Layer inherits Ethereum's security, protecting user funds with the highest level of security guarantees.
  • Unified Liquidity: X Layer benefits from seamless asset transfers and ZK-powered interoperability across CDK-based chains within the Polygon ecosystem.
  • Near-Instant Finality: Cryptographically ensured transaction integrity, achieving near-instant finality and robust security.
  • Powered by OKX: X Layer integrates seamlessly with OKX products, offering an all-in-one Web3 gateway and access to 50 million users in the OKX ecosystem.
  • Gateway to Web3: Users can enter the Web3 world via OKX Wallet, built with compact infrastructure modules to support innovative dApps.
How to Transfer Assets to or from X Layer

If you have assets on any of Wormhole’s 30+ connected blockchains and want to transfer to or from X Layer, you can do so via Portal Bridge by following the steps below:

  1. Head to Portal Bridge.
  2. Connect your Wallet.
  3. Select X Layer as either the Source or Target chain for your transaction.
  4. Complete the transfer process.
How to Connect Your App to X Layer

If you are a developer wanting to enable token transfers to and from X Layer, you can achieve this with just three lines of code via Wormhole Connect. Connect allows developers to integrate wrapped and native token transfers directly into their application UIs, enabling seamless bridging across Wormhole’s 30+ connected blockchains, not just X Layer, secured by the Wormhole Guardians.

To start integrating Connect and enabling your application on X Layer, check out the NPM package to get started.
