Wormhole continues to support additional routes for Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to provide a seamless chain-agnostic development experience to builders across Web3. Wormhole supports a set of contracts that compose with CCTP to enable generic messaging on top of native USDC cross-chain transfers for Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, and Sui.
If you want to transfer native USDC across connected chains using CCTP, you can do so via Portal Bridge by following the below steps:
Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) is a permissionless on-chain utility (built by Circle) that facilitates USDC transfers securely between blockchains via native burning and minting. It enables USDC to flow natively across blockchains – unifying liquidity in Web3 and simplifying the user experience.
Because USDC has become one of the most widely held, trusted, and transacted tokens on Ethereum, it is usually one of the most popular tokens on new and emerging chains as well (though these chains have historically only had bridged representations of USDC). On these new and emerging chains, multiple versions of these bridged USDC tokens can exist, which can lead to fragmented liquidity, poor pricing, and a confusing experience for users and developers alike.
CCTP helps unify USDC liquidity by creating a natively cross-chain USDC that can be burned and minted across connected chains. Developers can embed CCTP into their apps to provide users with a highly secure and capital-efficient way to transfer USDC across chains, setting the stage for a united and mainstream Web3.
Developers can leverage this solution to power seamless, composable cross-chain value transfer and unlock previously impossible cross-chain user experiences with USDC.
If you are a builder who wants to enable Native USDC transfers using CCTP, you can do so in just 3 lines of code via Wormhole Connect. Connect makes it possible for developers to bring wrapped and native token bridging directly into their application UIs and can seamlessly enable bridging to and from all of Wormhole’s 20+ connected blockchains, not just CCTP.
