Polygon brings its native POL token to Solana with Wormhole's Native Token Transfers (NTT) framework, marking a significant expansion beyond its home ecosystem. By leveraging NTT, Polygon ensures that POL's core functionalities, such as powering transactions, securing the network, and enabling community governance, will remain intact while gaining access to Solana's thriving ecosystem and user base.
Polygon is a comprehensive Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that employs multiple complementary technologies to address blockchain scalability challenges. This approach maintains Ethereum-compatible security guarantees while delivering significantly improved transaction throughput and reduced gas costs. The ecosystem encompasses a suite of solutions including its flagship Polygon PoS sidechain (home to major applications like Polymarket and Lens Protocol), the AggLayer for unified cross-chain liquidity, and the Chain Development Kit (CDK) for customizable appchain deployment.
POL is the native token of Polygon that powers the entire ecosystem. It serves as the gas token for transactions on Polygon PoS, securing the network through staking, and fueling community-driven initiatives. As a hyperproductive token, POL enables validators to secure multiple chains and participate in diverse roles across the Polygon aggregated network of blockchains, enhancing security, scalability, and overall productivity across the ecosystem.
Wormhole’s Native Token Transfers (NTT) is an open and composable framework for seamlessly transferring native tokens across blockchains while preserving their intrinsic properties. NTT is already powering natively multichain tokens for leading projects such as Sky, Lido, WalletConnect, RedStone, and Wormhole's W token, demonstrating its industry-wide impact and reliability. With Polygon, another leading project joins the ranks of NTT adopters.
By leveraging Wormhole’s NTT framework, POL ensures Polygon can scale seamlessly across Polygon and Solana, eliminating liquidity fragmentation. With NTT, projects maintain full control over their tokens’ behavior on each chain, including aspects such as customizability, metadata management, and ownership or upgradeability. This ensures compatibility with any token standard or governance system, offering unparalleled flexibility and adaptability.
NTT is already being used by some of crypto’s most systemically important assets, like Lido’s wstETH and Sky’s (formerly Maker) USDS, to unify users and liquidity.
