Wormhole now supports Mezo, the Bitcoin-centric platform built to make Bitcoin productive in day-to-day finance. This integration establishes Wormhole as an interoperability provider for Mezo, enabling seamless multichain access to MUSD, the first 100% Bitcoin-backed stablecoin, across Mezo and Ethereum mainnet with Wormhole’s NTT (Native Token Transfers) standard.
Mezo is an EVM-compatible Bitcoin-centric platform that enables seamless, everyday finance. Using tBTC’s infrastructure as a secure and decentralized foundation, Mezo enables Bitcoin holders to access liquidity without selling their assets through financial products, including mortgages funded by BTC collateral and everyday purchases made through Bitcoin-backed credit lines.
The platform’s flagship offering is MUSD, a USD-pegged stablecoin backed entirely by Bitcoin reserves. MUSD maintains a consistent 1:1 value with the US dollar while enabling users to tap into dollar liquidity without divesting their Bitcoin holdings.
Mezo processes transactions while maintaining deep integration with Bitcoin’s monetary properties. Key components include:
Mezo offers several unique advantages for Bitcoin holders and DeFi users:
With this integration, MUSD leverages Wormhole’s NTT (Native Token Transfers) to expand natively to Ethereum mainnet while eliminating liquidity fragmentation, joining leading projects like Sky, Lido, and M0 in adopting this open and composable standard. NTT enables MUSD to operate natively across blockchains through a secure burn-and-mint mechanism, ensuring Mezo maintains complete control over the token’s behavior on each chain, including aspects such as customizability, metadata management, and ownership or upgradeability. This multichain expansion is critical for MUSD’s growth, as it enables the Bitcoin-backed stablecoin to tap into Ethereum’s vast DeFi ecosystem while maintaining its core properties.
Users can transfer assets between Mezo and any of Wormhole’s 40+ connected blockchains via Portal:
If you are a developer wanting to enable token transfers to and from Mezo, you can achieve this with just three lines of code via Wormhole Connect. Connect allows developers to integrate wrapped and native token transfers directly into their application UIs, enabling seamless transfers across Wormhole’s 40+ connected blockchains, not just Mezo, secured by the Wormhole Guardians.
To start integrating Connect and enabling your application on Mezo, check out the NPM package to get started.
Wormhole is the leading interoperability platform that powers multichain applications and bridges at scale. Wormhole provides developers access to liquidity and users on over 40 of the leading blockchain networks, enabling use cases that span DeFi, NFTs, governance, and more.
The wider Wormhole network is trusted and used by teams like Circle and Uniswap. To date, the platform has facilitated the transfer of over 60 billion dollars through over 1 billion cross-chain messages. To learn more about Wormhole, follow on Twitter, join the Discord, or read more on the blog.
