Today, an on-chain vote was passed to change the cross-chain messaging protocol used to interact with the Celo deployment of Uniswap from Optics to Wormhole. With the Optics bridge not currently approved by the Uniswap Bridge Assessment Committee and Wormhole rated #1, the Celo team chose Wormhole in order to ensure that the cross-chain governance mechanism aligns with the Uniswap assessment team’s recognized structure.
Celo serves as a mobile-first international payment infrastructure for digital currencies. The platform aspires to make financial transactions universally accessible by enabling funds to be transferred to and from any global phone number.
Beyond payment functionalities, Celo's chain also supports the deployment of decentralized apps. To date, such apps have included a universal basic income contribution system for communities and a fundraising platform aimed at social initiatives.
The Celo deployment marks Wormhole’s 4th Uniswap V3 cross-chain deployment, joining Moonbeam, BNB Chain, and Gnosis Chain. Wormhole is the most utilized cross-chain provider for Uniswap (4), with the next closest provider handling only one deployment.
With the accelerated growth in L1’s and L2’s built on the OP stack, deploying a premier DEX like Uniswap on your chain is a must-have. The Uniswap DAO uses cross-chain messaging protocols (bridges) to relay governance decisions from Ethereum to destination chains where the Uniswap V3 contracts have been deployed.
The Uniswap Bridge Assessment highlighted Wormhole's strong security measures, mature codebase, and extensibility. Officially approving Wormhole as a cross-chain provider for all Uniswap V3 deployments makes choosing a bridge provider for your Uniswap V3 deployment even easier.
To make deploying an official cross-chain Uniswap deployment simple, the Wormhole Foundation, in collaboration with GFX Labs, has upgraded the existing deployment script to manage the cross-chain governance of new Uniswap V3 deployments. The improved script is freely available to all EVM-based blockchains to quickly deploy Uniswap V3 and pass the governing rights to the Uniswap DAO. This is expected to lead to the proliferation of official Uniswap deployments across most EVM-based blockchains. The implementation utilized by the deployment script is already in use for several official deployments. Future deployments made through the deployment tool will have a path toward approval based on the precedent of the existing deployments.
If you’re an EVM-based blockchain team that has been waiting for an official Uniswap deployment, the next steps are quite simple:
Wormhole is the leading interoperability platform that empowers development and growth across blockchains. Wormhole provides developers access to liquidity and users on over 20 of the leading blockchain networks, enabling use cases that span DeFi, NFTs, governance, and more. Wormhole enables a growing suite of products built around the foundational Wormhole Messaging protocol. Wormhole Connect is a key asset layer product, providing developers with an in-app bridging widget that can be integrated in as few as 3 lines of code. The wider Wormhole network is trusted and used by teams like Circle and Uniswap, and to date, the platform has facilitated the transfer of over 35 billion dollars through hundreds of millions of cross-chain messages.
