Wormhole Now Supports Base

Share:

Bridgers and builders can now onboard to and from Base from any of Wormhole’s 20+ connected chains across 6 runtimes.

As of today, Wormhole now supports bridging both to and from Base Mainnet from any of Wormhole’s 20+ connected blockchains across 6 runtimes.

About BASE

What is Base?

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network, built by Coinbase, that’s goal is to offer a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly way for anyone, anywhere, to build decentralized apps on-chain. Coinbase’s hope with Base is, “to make on-chain the next online” and onboard one billion users into the cryptoeconomy. In pursuit of this objective, Base will serve as both a home for Coinbase’s on-chain products and an open ecosystem where anyone can build.

How does Base work?

Base aims to be decentralized, permissionless, and open to anyone with the vision of creating a standard, modular, rollup agnostic Superchain - a horizontally scalable network of chains that share security, a communication layer, and an open source development stack (powered by Optimism).  Coinbase is joining Optimism as a Core Dev on the open source OP Stack, and working to create a thriving community of other developers working together on Base.

Who should care about Base?

Given the broad scope of Base’s mission to onboard the next billion users to the cryptoeconomy, both developers and bridge users should care - and there has already been a lot of mainstream interest.

If you’re interested in connecting your application to Base or simply want to bridge tokens to or from Base, you can easily do so using Wormhole.

How to bridge assets to or from Base

If you have assets on any of Wormhole’s 20+ connected blockchains and want to bridge to or from Base, you can do so via Portal Bridge by following the below steps:

  1. Head to Portal Bridge
  2. Connect your Wallet
  3. Select Base as either the Source or Target chain for your transaction
  4. Complete the bridging process

How to connect your app to Base

If you are a builder who wants to enable token transfers to and from Base, you can do so in just 3 lines of code via Wormhole Connect. Connect enables developers to bring wrapped and native token bridging directly into their application UIs and can seamlessly enable bridging to and from all of Wormhole’s 20+ connected blockchains, not just Base.

To start integrating Connect and enabling your application on Base, check out the NPM package to get started.
