Wormhole Foundation Supports Open Source Uniswap V3 Deployment Tool

Wormhole Foundation and GFX Labs jointly developed tooling to support Uniswap v3 deployments, allowing any EVM-based blockchain to deploy Uniswap v3 quickly.

In the months leading up to the launch of Uniswap v4, Wormhole Foundation is excited to support further tooling to deliver the leading decentralized trading protocol onto emerging EVM-based blockchains.

The Need For a Uniswap Deployment Tooling

Over the last several months, Uniswap has expanded the number of Uniswap v3 deployments beyond popular L2s like Optimism and Arbitrum. EVM-based blockchains with a canonical messaging system like Polygon have been able to support Uniswap v3’s cross-chain governance needs by utilizing their existing infrastructure. As the Uniswap DAO has expanded beyond these and onto Binance’s BNB Chain and other popular chains without canonical messaging systems, the DAO needed to implement a system to support Uniswap v3’s governance functionalities.

Wormhole provides governance messaging capabilities to the Uniswap v3 deployment on BNB Chain, Gnosis, and Moonbeam. Over the course of these deployments, the Wormhole Foundation discovered the need for improved Uniswap v3 deployment tooling to ease the deployment process. Since the Uniswap Business License lapsed on April 1st, 2023, any team can now deploy Uniswap v3 deployments permissionlessly.

To make deploying an official cross-chain Uniswap deployment simple, the Wormhole Foundation, in collaboration with GFX Labs, has upgraded the existing deployment script to manage the cross-chain governance of new Uniswap v3 deployments. The improved script is freely available to all EVM-based blockchains to quickly deploy Uniswap v3 and pass the governing rights to the Uniswap DAO. This is expected to lead to the proliferation of official Uniswap deployments across most EVM-based blockchains. The implementation utilized by the deployment script is already in use for several official deployments. Future deployments made through the deployment tool will have a path toward approval based on the precedent of the existing deployments.

How The Tool Works

The deployment was initially developed by Uniswap Labs. After installing the package, the deployer can configure the CLI with their private key, blockchain RPC, wrapped asset address, gas asset symbol, and other optional parameters. The upgraded tool includes a `--wormhole-enable` flag. With the flag set, the deployer may pass in the applicable Wormhole chain, bridge address, and the Uniswap Wormhole Message Sender address on Ethereum. Once configured, the tool will deploy the core Uniswap v3 contracts, periphery contracts, Wormhole Message Receiver, and then passes ownership of the new deployment to the existing Wormhole Message Sender, which is controlled by Uniswap governance, all in minutes.
