Cross-Chain Monthly: August 2023

Welcome to the Cross-Chain Monthly, an update on all news, events, and developments in the Wormhole & Cross-Chain ecosystem. In this edition we'll cover:

1. Introducing the Wormhole Foundation: The WF is a core contributor to Wormhole, with the aim to support teams building secure, open-source, and decentralized products
2. Base is here: Coinbase's Ethereum L2 has been supported by Wormhole from Day 1
3. Wormhole Gateway is live: After last month's announcement at Osmocon, August 31 marks the official launch of Wormhole Gateway

🛸 Introducing the Wormhole Foundation

We are thrilled to officially introduce the Wormhole Foundation as a core contributor to Wormhole. The Wormhole Foundation's focus is to support teams building secure, open-source, and decentralized products within the Wormhole ecosystem.

Wormhole is supported by a set of core contributing organizations aimed at building a decentralized internet where information can move freely and securely, everywhere.

⛓️ Base is here

Bridgers and builders can now onboard to and from Base from any of Wormhole’s 20+ connected chains. Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network, built by Coinbase, that’s goal is to offer a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly way for anyone, anywhere, to build decentralized apps on-chain. Coinbase’s hope with Base is, “to make on-chain the next online” and onboard one billion users into the cryptoeconomy.

If you’re interested in connecting your application to Base or simply want to bridge tokens to or from Base, you can easily do so using Wormhole.

✨ Wormhole Gateway is live

After last month's announcement at Osmocon (tweet), August 31 marks the official launch of Wormhole Gateway. Gateway is an application-specific blockchain powered by the Cosmos SDK. It aims to bring liquidity to the Cosmos ecosystem while also enhancing Wormhole's security and sovereignty.
